The new trains will elevate the rail travel experience in the Kingdom to unprecedented levels in terms of passenger comfort, travel experience and reliability. With a total length of around 175 meters, the trains will accommodate approximately 320 passengers. These high-speed trains will adhere to the latest European and international standards and will be specifically tailored to suit the unique climatic and environmental conditions of Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi railway operator, Saudi Arabian Railway (SAR), is investing in the expansion of the rail network on the Arabian Peninsula as part of the “Vision 2030” modernisation plan. The introduction of these new trains aims to enhance capacity between the urban centers of Riyadh, Hofuf, Abqaiq, and Dammam. It is anticipated that the number of rail travelers will double to 3.8 million passengers in the coming years. With the implementation of the new intercity trains, SAR is well-prepared for this anticipated surge in demand.
