Unforgettable Travel Experiences in Norway
After an extensive tendering process, Stadler Rail was awarded the contract to deliver the new long-distance trains for Norway. «This is a day of celebration,» says Øystein Risan, CEO of Norske Tog. «In Norway, we have some of the most spectacular railway lines in the world. With the new long-distance trains, we are ready to take the travel experience, comfort, and quality to a whole new level.»
The FLIRT Nordic Express (FLIRTnex) is specially designed for Norwegian weather conditions and will travel at speeds of up to 200 km/h. With a total of eight coaches, it offers space for up to 542 passengers and sets new standards in terms of space, comfort, and purpose. The onboard bistro creates a welcoming atmosphere, and the family compartment provides plenty of fun for both children and adults. The FLIRTnex offers an expanded range of sleeping compartments, including reclining seats, 2-bed, and 4-bed compartments. Particularly clever is the fact that the sleeping compartments can be converted into full-fledged closed seating groups for families and business travelers during the day.
«The new trains with flexible sleeping compartments, bistro, family-friendly amenities, and generous luggage storage will help make rail travel the most attractive way to travel in Norway,» explains Sille Svenkerud, the project manager at Norske Tog. «Our trains should not only serve the purpose of transportation, but be an experience and a place where travelers like to stay.»
Production of the trains will begin in 2024, with the first trains starting testing in Norway in 2025. Deployment in regular service is planned for 2027.
