Feeling at Home, 40’000 Feet above Sea Level Interior Design

down
When the leading Swiss holiday airline Edelweiss Air took over four long-haul aircraft from Swiss, the task was to create a completely new flying experience. Nose fully redesigned the cabin interior for a new brand identity. Swiss heritage, high-quality look and feel and cheerful colour scheme are the cornerstones of this work. The new, emotional design turns the journey itself into a carefree holiday experience.

Cabin interior design is the most direct touchpoint with an airline's brand.

Premium Feel-Good Atmosphere
Whether on an outward or return flight, the fresh but not overly bright colours will put guests in the holiday mood, or thanks to the subtle references to Swiss textile tradition, make them feel almost at home.

At Home with Edelweiss
The predominant use of blue not only reflects the colours of the sea and sky in popular holiday destinations, but also creates a strong link to the Edelweiss brand, characterised by its distinctive blue lettering.

High-Quality Swiss Textile Tradition
Nose has spared no effort to refine all the textiles and patterns used. This means that the highest quality is visible in every production step, especially in the weaving technology. The fabrics are not only carefully orchestrated in terms of colour, but they also feel soft and natural despite fulfilling high demands such as robustness, weight, flammability, hygiene, ease of care and cost. The highest standards have been achieved by working closely with each of the suppliers in Switzerland and Germany. Customers never have the feeling of flying with a budget airline.

Agile Design Process
As many textile materials have long delivery times for commissioned work, this project had an extremely tight schedule. Nose developed an overall design vision in advance and managed the project according to the of each detailed aspect in close coordination with the Edelweiss project team.
Cost Efficiency through Design
For headrest covers, cushions, blankets, seat covers, curtains and carpets, Nose worked with various textile manufacturers to develop the best solution for the respective life cycle. Depending on the weaving, embroidery or printing technique, the type of design options, ease of care, durability, quality appearance and purchase price, the optimum solution will look completely different.

Pure emotion. A dynamic lighting programme creates an atmosphere in every phase of the flight.

In the Best Light
From sunny breakfast light to bluish night light: Nose developed the right dynamic mood lighting programmes to gently put guests in a calm, positive mood at every stage of the flight. Soft, atmospheric colour transitions ensure that guests feel relaxed and at ease. The new materials and menus served are also presented in the best possible light.

The Cabin from the 3D Printer: Efficiently Programmed in a 1:10 Model
Light is difficult to simulate virtually with CAD. To bring the mood light programmes to life emotionally, Nose produced a 1:10 model with a 3D printer. Using the original software and the original LED light strips, the various light phases could be programmed and tuned in the small model and then transferred directly 1:1 to the aircraft via a USB stick.
