Winter service has a long tradition at the Rhaetian Railway. Certain sections of the line wind their way up to over 2,200 metres above sea level, where they are deeply covered in snow during winter. Strong winds and heavy snowdrifts are commonplace in this environment. With the design of high-performance snow blowers, Nose has made an important contribution to ensuring that RhB trains can continue to navigate these adventurous winter landscapes quickly and efficiently. The 30-tonne machines are capable of clearing up to 8,500 tonnes of snow per hour.
A particular innovation of the new snow blower is its ability to change direction independently on the spot, thanks to a hydraulic lifting and turning mechanism. It is equipped with its own driver's cab, from which the pushing locomotive is controlled remotely. As both the snow blower and the locomotive were newly developed, Nose was able to design them as a cohesive visual unit. Although the construction is composed entirely of straight metal panels, the RhB’s brand values are clearly reflected: precisely aligned surfaces create a powerful, compact appearance. The imposing machine conveys an impression of its immense performance, while the high quality and value are evident in every carefully coordinated detail.
