SOB Traverso:

When a Train Becomes a Brand Branding

A striking colour and a fitting name: with the copper-coloured Traverso, we have created a train that is a strong brand in its own right. The train is a stylish traveller and a visible symbol of the Südostbahn.

The metallic sheen of the copper has an amazing effect from a distance. Depending on the weather and the position of the sun, the edge of the train catches the light differently every time and can therefore shape the character of an entire landscape.
Livery with Radiance
The copper colour emphasises the unique character of the train. It radiates comfort and warmth and makes you want to travel by train to some of the most beautiful destinations in Switzerland.

Touchpoints with Style
The colour not only serves as an accent for the livery, but also in printed and digital media. For the website and magazine, and as a recurring element in the visual world, the Traverso copper functions as a communicative framework. It connects the various touchpoints and joins them together to form a striking chain of experiences.

Colour with Character
To find the right colour, we worked closely with a specialist paint manufacturer. Copper is not found in the usual colour palettes and is also not widely used as a car paint. But not all copper is the same. The colour had to be neither too yellow nor too red. Finding the right grain size for the metallic effect was crucial for the long-distance effect of the train composition.

The name Traverso makes you want to travel. It stands for travelling experiences on some of the most spectacular railway lines in Switzerland.
An Iconic Train on Three Spectacular Routes
The new train will operate on three routes. It crosses Switzerland on the classic Pre-Alps Express route from east to west. As the Treno Gottardo, it brings a piece of railway construction history to life along the historic Gotthard route, and the Aare-Linth is the name of the route from Bern along the Churfirsten to Chur.

Its Name is the Program
Just as a mountain climber crosses a wall and a skier crosses a snowfield, the new train traverses Switzerland. The name Traverso is memorable, easy to pronounce and works in all national languages. After this name first emerged as an idea in a workshop, everyone involved couldn't let go of it.
