Around 60 «Flexity Basel» trams are in use on the Basel rail network. In the trams, wooden seats not only ensure a pleasant feeling of space, but also the highest level of seating comfort.
When developing the seat, BVB relied on design expertise from Nose. In addition to the legal and safety regulations, BVB's brand values - clarity, tidiness, straightness and brightness - were crucial for the design.
Co-Creation
In close collaboration with BVB, Bombardier and the seat manufacturer Kiel, Nose developed a seat that is at the same time aesthetic, comfortable, non-slip, scratch-resistant and easy to clean.
Ergonomics
The ergonomically optimised seat shells are made from moulded beech plywood, which is how the seat got its name - Tram Seat Plywood (TSP). The finish is a robust synthetic resin layer with an elm look to protect the surfaces.
Spatial feeling
The tubular frame of the seat is also equipped with an integrated stand-up aid, which also serves as a grab handle for standing passengers. This avoids the usual “forest of grab bars” and creates an open, tidy feeling of space.
Reality check
BVB transports over 125 million passengers every year. The seats have been in use since 2014 and have proven themselves excellently in this demanding environment. They also travel in Stadler's Tina trams in various cities within Germany and the Netherlands.
