SBB is putting money into innovation and being green. Up to 129 modern mainline locomotives from Stadler Rail will replace the old freight fleet. A standout feature of the new design is the innovative last-mile module. This battery pack allows the trains to operate without overhead lines, making freight transport more environmentally friendly.

Our design team was inspired by the iconic design language of the Re 460, better known as the «Lok 2000». We refined its sleek lines and well-defined geometric structure, resulting in a new locomotive that exudes compact power. One particular challenge was seamlessly integrating Stadler Rail’s corporate design elements with SBB’s design standards. The result is a modern reinterpretation of the classic design language, giving the new locomotives a timeless elegance and strong brand recognition.

These new-gen locomotives pack a punch when it comes to tech, but they’ve also got a really cool look. They show that we’re serious about making freight transport more sustainable and efficient.
