When the idea emerged at Nose ten years ago to propose an iconic livery for the SOB’s Voralpen-Express, no one had anticipated the lasting impact of the copper colour.

The Traverso has long since evolved into an independent brand. It operates not only as Voralpen–Express, but also as Treno Gottardo, Alpenrhein–Express and on the Aare–Linth line.

In addition, its operator, Swiss Südostbahn (SOB), successfully uses the popular train in its communications. This includes the magazine «Essenz», published in the distinctive copper look, a special Traverso beer developed in collaboration with a Swiss craft brewery, as well as the Vino Traverso, produced from white and red Merlot grapes in Ticino. In Zurich, a tram in the Traverso design was in service between April 2023 and January 2024. In 2024, passengers could also travel to Säntis in a Traverso-branded gondola. Today, the Traverso can also be found as a cable car at Flumserberg and, more recently, even as an attraction at the Knie Children’s Zoo in Rapperswil.

A copper-coloured wave of Traverso adaptations has rolled across Swiss transport, demonstrating the significant brand value that iconic livery and distinctive train design can create.
