Dynamic New Look for Austria’s Railways

With the presentation of the new KISS double-decker train in Vienna, ÖBB and Stadler are opening a new chapter in long-distance rail travel in Austria. Nose Design Experience was involved in the project from the initial bid to final implementation.

The overall design concept was developed by Nose during the tender phase. In the subsequent stages, our Transportation Design Team contributed targeted interior solutions, including the children’s compartment with play elements and the working spaces in the mid-decks.

We placed particular emphasis on the front end. The ÖBB KISS is the first double-decker on Stadler’s platform to feature the new dynamic look. The design defines the visual presence of the train on the tracks – a confident expression of technology and speed. Nose supported the entire design and implementation process, from concept through to production-level detailing.

Developed in close collaboration with Stadler’s engineering team, the KISS platform once again demonstrates the quality of trains that can be achieved through its strong design and engineering foundation. The project also highlights the potential of close collaboration between manufacturer, operator and Nose Design Experience – for a functional and forward-looking approach to mobility in Europe.

From the end of 2026, the six-car trains will be operating between Vienna and Salzburg – at speeds of up to 200 km/h, offering more seats and a new level of comfort.
